exposure is paramount.
it determines how familiar you are with something.
it determines how knowledgeable you are about something.
and most of all, it determines how automated your thoughts and reflexes are about something.
that is to say, how naturally something comes to you without you having to exert your working memory.
even the simplest of things, like telling if a chord is a major or a minor one, or knowing what angle a racket should be at when tackling an oncoming shuttle.
i've learnt not to take these for granted.
of course, a disclaimer: exposure is key, but not a lone ingredient.
